KBYTE is officially an iOS app now, siyametrik.com got rebuilt from scratch, and our first real estate demo is live.
Busy week. KBYTE picked a direction, siyametrik.com got torn down and rebuilt, and I shipped a demo site for a real estate agency. Also spent a surprising amount of time on the size of a logo.
Last post I said KBYTE wasn't supposed to be a product. Well. This week I stopped pretending. The iOS app is the only version going forward, the web preview is being retired, and I enrolled in the Apple Developer Program, which made the whole thing feel a lot more real than I was ready for.
Before writing any code I read the angry app store reviews of other finance apps. People quit because logging is annoying, the worst reviews were about losing data, and nobody cares about streaks. So: make logging fast, make backup solid, skip the gimmicks. No bank login, your data stays on your phone, pay once. No subscription.
Then the code. New rounded font, light and dark theme, a quick Ekle tab with a calculator keypad, a smarter investment form, a Settings tab, categories and full CSV backup. Honest part: none of it has run on a real device yet. So next week is mostly me finding out what I broke.
Siyametrik is the small studio Kerem and I run. The old site was a pile of animated sections that looked nice and said very little. I deleted most of it. The new one is simpler, with a proper SEO setup and a subscribe flow, and it's the boring stuff I'm actually proud of.
The build also broke twice for reasons that had nothing to do with my code: fonts loading from Google and a database opening at build time. Both fixed, both the kind where you stare at a failed deploy wondering what you did wrong.
The biggest thing this week was a demo for a property agency in Avsallar. Next.js, Payload CMS and Postgres, four languages, an admin panel and a small stats page.
It's out there now, and the first meeting where they actually see it is today. I spent the day after launch polishing it before anyone else could.
Then the logo. 3x bigger, then 1.5x, then 1.5x again, then finally 40px on desktop and 32px on phones. Four commits about one image. I'm keeping them all in the history as a reminder.
Kerem also built a booking demo for a dental clinic this week, and it had my favorite bug: Russian dates coming out as "5 Октября" because CSS capitalize uppercases every word. Lesson: test narrow screens in Russian and German, not only Turkish.
That's the week. Next one is mostly KBYTE on an actual phone and finding out how much of it survives.
More soon.
